The best way to experience the local wineries is through a winery tour- you don’t have to have a designated driver so you can all enjoy yourself and sample the area’s delicious drops! Kenny’s Escapes and Foodscape Tours are well regarded for their great tours, full of great banter and product knowledge. Also, our friends at Experience Nature offer food & wine tours as well as nature tourism experiences. The bespoke Olive Degustation tour at Kangaroo Valley Olive Farm is amongst our favourites and their Jrvis Bay day trips explore the bay via water and land.
The Shoalhaven is the start of Australia’s Oyster Coast, so you know you’ll be spoilt with the delicious morsels who have grown up in the pristine Shoalhaven waters. A drive out to Greenwell Point will have you at the oyster growers location, where you can chat with the oyster growers themselves, have the oysters shucked and take home a few dozen to share (or not!)
One of the best ways to get out and experience the local waterways is by kayak, where you can just sit back and listen to the birdlife calling, the fish jumping and the insects humming. It really is a beautiful natural orchestra! Explore little rivers and creeks or take your kayak out into the Bay or ocean, depending on your skill level.
Step back in time with a tour at Meroogal, an historic house built in the 1800’s which is still in order from its final inhabitants. The story of Meroogal follows the lives of the women who lived in the house – four generations of women who kept the house in order without the modern conveniences of today and raised the following generation under the same roof – a fascinating insight into everyday life for the residents in Nowra in the 18th century.
