Best known for its stunning environment, a drive along Jacks Corner Road to the north of the village is highly recommended, with a stop in to see the beautiful Bendeela recreation and camping ground. Dotted with resident wombats and teeming with nature, this is a perfect spot for a picnic lunch by the water and a swim afterwards. Further along the road is the Scots College Glengarry Campus, deep in the wilds of Kangaroo Valley. Toward the end of the road lies the Man From Kangaroo Valley Trail Riding establishment. Over the course of the ride you can’t help but gain a deep appreciation for the respect and intense understanding your guide Geoff has for his horses. The ride takes in the dense rainforest at the foothills of the mountain and up along a scenic ridge overlooking the land down below.

Another scenic drive from the village takes you out along Mt Scanzi Road and along vastly different vegetation, winding its way up to the scenic Tallowa Dam. The dam provides water for the Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands and acts as a back up supply for Sydney and the Illawarra. Tallowa Dam features a huge mechanical fish lift, allowing fish to be transported over the dam wall. Now if you’re picturing schools of fish waiting patiently to elevator music as it travels upwards on the platform you will be sadly disappointed, however the fish lift is quite interesting to watch in action and the surrounding grounds are a perfect place for a rest on the grass and a bite to eat while watching the surrounding wildlife, including birds, reptiles and kangaroos.

The many walking tracks of Kangaroo Valley offer almost unbelievably perfect scenes of nature. Stand out walks include the Three Views Walking Track, Mannings Lookout and Griffins Fire Trail. Reward your outdoor expedition with a nourishing in-room massage or pamper session on your return to Bangalay, allowing you to wind down and prepare for the next day’s activities.
